Degrees awarded by Sheffield Hallam University
As a strategic partner with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), our courses are of the highest standard to meet rigorous requirements. Our graduates obtain employer focused qualifications from a world-class university when studying at the University Centre Stockport College.
Stay near, go far
A degree will be the same from any type of institution. Studying for a degree on your doorstep is not only convenient, it means you can live at home and reduce your living expenses, compared to living away at university.
The University Centre not only offers degrees, it provides a variety of Higher Education qualifications that act as a stepping stone to a full degree, such as HNCs, HNDs and foundation degrees. They can be ‘topped up’ to a degree at a later date, giving you the flexibility to complete your Higher Education in stages.
Unique learning environment
If you don’t feel ready for the step up to university, studying at a college could be easier and we can usually provide you with more support. Everything is on a smaller scale at The University Centre, meaning your learning generally takes place in a classroom setting. This creates a more productive learning environment and gives you more opportunities to collaborate with other students.
We can offer a more supportive learning environment, with individual support for those who need it and more one-to-one time with your lecturers and tutors. This gives students the best chance of achieving their potential.
Our lower fees give you a more affordable education and better value for money.
Working while learning
Staying at home to study a university degree means that you may be able to study while working full-time, or hold down a regular part-time job, which can be difficult for a student based on a university campus who lives at home outside of term time.
University Centre Stockport College is an integral part of the local community and we tailor our degree programmes to the demands of the local economy, providing you with specific workplace skills for the local jobs market. All programmes have work-related strengths supporting high standards of student employability.

The Trafford College Group (TCG) is one of the largest colleges in the UK, formed from a merger in April 2018 between Stockport College and Trafford College. The College has 14,000 students who choose to develop their skills with us, of which over 1,000 are in Higher Education.
The College operates from 3 campuses along a 10 mile stretch of South Manchester, with the majority of HE based within our University Centre Stockport College; provision is also delivered at our Altrincham and Stretford campuses.
As part of the Stockport Campus redevelopment, we are building a specialist University Centre for our Higher Education learners for 2019-20, continuing to provide a distinct Higher Eeducation student experience within a supportive college environment.
We are committed to providing a high quality student experience, through a well-planned curriculum offer, enhanced by our “links with local employers which are made strategically and used to inform curriculum planning and programme development” (QAA, 2017). Our focus is on ensuring positive student outcomes into employment and, in doing so, meeting local higher level vocational, technical and professional skills needs.
Our external Quality Assurance Review (QAA, 2017 and 2018) confirmed confidence in our academic standards and the quality of the student academic experience, reporting that the student experience is of high quality and student outcomes are excellent.
The externally published performance metrics are very positive, with more learners continuing and achieving with us than the national average. Alongside this, over 95% are in employment or further study 6 months after completion (DLHE 2017 survey).
We are passionate about transforming lives for the better, with a dedicated and wellexperienced team of staff who will support you on your journey. Students benefit from a generous tutorial entitlement (QAA, 2017 and 2018), with students commenting favourably on the significant formal and informal support available to them (QAA, 2017 and 2018). We ensuring that you reach your potential.
Community is at the centre of what we do, with all programmes engaging in real life and exciting community-led projects that really enrich the student experience and skills, along with supporting those around us. “Employability skills are embedded within programmes” (QAA, 2017), including high quality work placements and live project briefs for employers and community causes.
