Gary Spicer Head of the University Centre
Who we are
The Trafford College Group (TCG) is one of the largest colleges in the UK, formed from a merger in April 2018 between Stockport College and Trafford College. The College has 14,000 students who choose to develop their skills with us, of which over 1,000 are in Higher Education.
Operating from 3 campuses along a 10-mile stretch of South Manchester, with the majority of HE based within our University Centre Stockport College; provision is also delivered at our Altrincham and Stretford campuses.
What we do
We provide an accessible and high quality offer that meets our local skills needs.
The 2020 National Student Survey [NSS] confirms this once again with overall student satisfaction rates of 90% and progression into employment and student pass rates both at an all time high of 97% - that’s the best in Greater Manchester by the way - this is a good time to join us!
As part of the Stockport Campus redevelopment, we are building a specialist University Centre for our Higher Education learners for 2021, continuing to provide a distinct Higher Education student experience within a supportive college environment.
Our most recent external Quality Assurance Review (QAA 2018) confirmed confidence in our academic standards and the quality of the student academic experience, reporting that the student experience is of high quality and student outcomes are excellent.
We are passionate about transforming lives for the better, with a dedicated and well-experienced team of staff who will support you on your journey every step of the way. Students benefit from a generous tutorial entitlement and comment favourably on the significant formal and informal support available to them.
How we do it
This is at the heart of what we do, its people that build and sustain community, working together, supporting each other, and having a shared sense of belonging and being part of something, something that leaves its mark, All our programmes engage in real life and exciting community-led projects that really enrich the student experience along with supporting those who may be less fortunate around us. “Employability skills are embedded within programmes” (QAA, 2017), including high quality work placements and live project briefs.
Teaching and Learning go together. At the University Centre we work in partnership to help you get the best out of your studies and enhance your experience. We even have a written constitution that details the strategy we have to achieve this (Student Engagement) and we believe if we get all this right, you’ll get to where you want to get to and have a good time getting there!
