Free courses for Thomas Cook staff at recruitment event
Stockport College is offering free courses to all Thomas Cook staff through the Manchester Airport Academy at a special recruitment event in October.
Airport Academy staff are offering CV and interview support at the Runway Visitor Park on Thursday 3rd October from 10.00am-6.00pm in addition to a series of short courses.
The education centre that is based at Manchester Airport has helped thousands of people into employment since it opened in 2012, into a range of roles, from airport construction to terminal security.
Bespoke courses give candidates the chance to upskill and gain valuable work experience - particularly important for applicants looking to take a side step into a brand new role.
Head of Studies for Employability and Skills at Stockport College Gareth Burrow, said: “We have helped people into literally hundreds of different jobs at Manchester Airport, which makes the Airport Academy an excellent resource for anyone looking for a new line of work from Thomas Cook, or indeed anywhere else!
“While we offer a range of entry points into careers, we also offer opportunities along many different paths at the Airport. Thanks to our range of affiliated college courses, there’s also the chance for Thomas Cook staff to upskill, to return to work at a different level.”
Airport Academy alumni include College student award-winner Shaun Brennan who spread his wings into airline security from an advertising job in London after taking a career break to focus on his family.
Following the support of Academy staff, Shaun is now rapidly climbing the career ladder with ICTS, which recently offered its own in house training on US airline safety systems in Texas.
Sean from Heaton Moor, Stockport said: “Doors have opened that I didn’t know existed before I came to the Airport Academy. There’s a lot of transferrable skills I’ve got and the Airport Academy turns you on to the fact you can bring these to the table. It’s about looking at things in a different way.”
The Academy is instrumental in equipping would-be-workers with the right skills to take jobs in Manchester Airport’s ongoing £1bn Transformation Programme, which aims to raise capacity to 45 million passengers from 28 million.
Gareth added: “We’re really proud of successes like Shaun’s. He’s a shining example of where anyone can go with the right skills, industry certification and work experience, all of which we provide at the Airport Academy a Manchester Airport.”
Short courses, exclusively for Thomas Cook staff, begin on Monday October 7th.
