Students Graduate from University Centre Stockport College
Students celebrated the formal completion of their studies at the University Centre Stockport College with their graduation ceremony at Stockport Town Hall.
After years of education and developing their profound knowledge within their chosen field of study students crossed the stage to mark the transition from graduand to graduate, receiving their commemorative certificate from Mark Harris, Dean of Higher Education.
Mark Harris, Dean of Higher Education at the University Centre Stockport College, said: "This event is the biggest annual education awards evening in Stockport where graduates and their families come together to celebrate their achievements in a ceremony that has become the town's annual blue ribbon evening. The staff and governors at the College are very proud of our students' achievements and send their congratulations to everyone who has graduated, wishing them well for the future.
"This last year has been a great success for Higher Education at Stockport College, putting us back on the map as a University Centre, supported by some excellent recent outcomes including another really strong QAA report, our best ever student achievements and receiving the Silver Teaching Excellence award. Further to our successes as an institution we have seen improved student satisfaction levels above the national benchmark and outstanding student destinations in to employment."
During the ceremony key note speaker and alumnus Nick Entwistle shared his experience of what it takes to create success once graduating from the University Centre.
Nick is the Creative Director and founder of the Bank of Creativity, working with agencies and brands to create compelling content to engage their audiences and generate big interest in their product or service. One of his most recent campaigns helped to encourage donations for Neuroblastoma sufferer Isabella Lyttle, and after reaching viral status with more than 30 million views across social media, it soon reached national press and TV news. Nick is also highly credited for his role in directing the music video and social campaign for The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir's song A Bridge Over You, which topped the charts and was Christmas number one in 2015.
Lesley Davies OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of The Trafford College Group, said: "This event is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all of our students across Access to Higher Education, Professional and Higher Education. Our students are well prepared for both future study and their future career, and the graduation ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate with our latest graduands and award winners. On behalf of all those that work at the College, I should like to wish all our students that have graduated the very best of luck as they go forward to meet new challenges and opportunities."
The penultimate awards closing the graduation ceremony included the prestigious Special Recognition Awards for students and the local community. These awards highlighted the students that have truly gone above and beyond either during their education or influencing the Higher Education community at Stockport, inspiring peers and staff members. Academic Excellence and Undergraduate Research Excellence were among the special awards, exhibiting outstanding achievements amongst a plethora of inspirational students.
