Make-up artists go head-to-head in College competition
Hair and Media Make-Up students have been putting their skills to the test on their return to College in a series of awe-inspiring in-house competitions.
Level 2 students wowed on the first day of the contest with their futuristic looks, followed by freakish full-faces for the circus challenge, which tried-out learners research skills, photographic techniques and special effects.
Meanwhile, Level 3 learners competed with each other to create images of the tropics and accident & emergency-inspired designs, which stretched their knowledge of the use of accessories as well as colour and texture palettes.
Tutor Adam Nicholls said: “The effort students have put into the competition has been amazing and I’d like to applaud all of their transitions back into the classroom in recent weeks. Having Level 2 students attempt special effects from the Level 3 course shows just how far they’ve been able to come in terms of skills and confidence during our lockdown lessons.
“The competitions were designed to give my students a challenge, and they’ve made me extremely proud with the excellent standard they’ve produced. These looks are all good practice for our next step of entering regional and national competitions.”
Students from Stockport College’s celebrated Hair and Beauty Department are invited to take part in Greater Manchester Colleges Group Skills Competitions each year, with several selected to enter the heats of the UK's leading contest for learners and apprentices, WorldSkills.
Qualified Media Make-Up students progress to work for the likes of top brands, such as MAC and Bobbi Brown, with others going on to study special effects make-up at university and successfully forging freelance careers, like bridal, following the footsteps of expert lecturer Adam Nicholls.
Level 2 first prize goes to Grace Blamire, followed by Emily Batty in second place and Erin Pearson in third. Prizes up for grabs include a zombie make-up set, Wella Professionals hair kit and Easter treats.
Deonne Sullivan and Gina Kerr gained the most points in Level 3, with Phoebe Cropper and Ellablue Bates in second place and Emma Wilson in third, winning Kryolan, Wella haircare and other Easter goodies.
Well done to everyone who entered!
