Skills travel to new heights on work experience

Students gained valuable experience in the exciting world of the travel industry by flexing their TV & Film skills in the work place of a global enterprise, Travel Counsellors.

Alistair Lawlor, Katie Cuneen and Noor Al-Khaffaf went behind the scenes of the company’s communications centre in Manchester to help produce how-to videos for the firm’s army of travel advisors.

The learners got to grips with new skills in camerawork, show set ups and preparing PowerPoint for use on screen.

Alistair said: “This experience has helped me to understand what I want to do in the future and helped me figure out what I want to do going forward in my work after my course. All the people at Travel Counsellors were very supportive and really helped me during my work experience. I would recommend people just try out a work placement because you meet new people and do new things.”

A highlight for Alistair was using Travel Counsellor’s technology, which included familiarisation with their video production system.

This work experience formed part of the College’s trials of the new T-Level qualification, which includes extended 45-day industry placements.

Colleague Experience Partner at Travel Counsellors Mike Ashton said: “These students are not only learning how to use state-of-the-art equipment, but actively contributing to the success of our internal broadcasts – all whilst improving their confidence and crucially learning to communicate with adults and adjust to the world of work.

“This has allowed us to familiarise ourselves with how the programme works, build relationships with the college and introduce business leaders to the concept of a T-Level placement.”
