Hairdresser makes the cut

A 1920s look, finger wave and dazzling hair accessories have clinched a student a place in the finals of a prestigious hair industry magazine competition.

Level 2 Hairdressing Services learner Chloe Day beat almost a dozen rivals to win best stylist in the regional heat of the Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year 2020. She won in under 30 minutes, with Level 3 Diploma Hairdressing’s Manal Houssen coming second in the ‘Hair Up Section’ in under 45 minutes.

It was the first time the industry magazine’s contest was opened up to include students as well as apprentices at Hugh Baird College in Liverpool on Wednesday 29th January and attracted post-16 providers from across the North West.

Hair and Beauty Programme Leader at Stockport College Wendy Grayson said: “Huge congratulations to all of the students who entered the regional heats, particularly Manal and Chloe.

"Taking part in competitions like this is confidence building. It shows learners a more active side of the industry. It makes their learning relevant and opens their minds to what’s out there, other than working in a salon.”

The final of Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year takes place at the L’Oréal Professionnel Academy in London on 26th March 2020.
