Join Stockport College for a celebration of Muslim heritage

Stockport College and its community partners are hosting an action-packed day of online activities to mark this year’s Muslim Arts and Culture Festival MACFESTUK celebrations.

MACFESTUK is a ground-breaking, award-winning festival hosted across Greater Manchester and the North West – and across the world, celebrating art, literature, music, history, culture, photography, cuisine, children, youth and women, and the heritage of the Muslim diaspora.

There are over 70 events, most of which are free and digital, hosted by schools and colleges, with the aim of bringing Muslim and non-Muslim communities together to promote social inclusion and overcome barriers.

Staff, heads, pupils and students are expected to headline the College Group’s event on March 4th showcasing art, poetry and drama, with the help of special guests from Stockport Grammar School and Mark Adlestone OBE DL, Chairman of Beaverbrooks The Jeweller and former High Sheriff of Greater Manchester 2019/20.

College Group Principal and CEO James Scott said: “We are delighted to be able to host this incredible event celebrating Muslim arts and culture and the rich diversity of our colleges and community. Our partnership with the Muslim Arts and Culture Festival is of great value to The Trafford College Group, and we look forward to many more collaborations to confirm our connection."

Four MACFEST poets recently took up the College Group’s invite to ‘Scribble A Script’ to spread positivity through poetry, prose and song on a virtual wall of wellbeing, with some fantastic contributions.

Founder and Executive Director of MACFESTUK, Qaisra Shahraz MBE, said: “Muslim Arts and Culture Festival is delighted to partner with The Trafford College Group to promote community and social cohesion, and to celebrate diversity and togetherness.

“Last year we supported the College Group in its excellent effort to keep students connected and to promote creativity so important in difficult times of the pandemic and during the lock down period. We are proud that some of our MACFEST poets contributed their poetry (including different languages) to the College Group’s ‘Wall of Wellbeing'.

“We are really looking forward to hosting The Trafford College Group as part of MACFEST 2021 programme. We can’t wait for the mini festival being planned with its wide range of wonderful art and cultural activities by the students and teachers on 4th of March. Thank you!

“We are immensely proud to have The Trafford College Group as our fantastic partner!”
