Celebrity styling within apprentice’s grasp

A hairdresser’s ambition to style the likes of the Voice and Love Island cast is one step closer thanks to an apprenticeship with Stockport’s trendy Tramp salon.

Tramp owners came to Stockport from London with links to styling celebrity shows and stars, such as Paloma Faith, the Brit Awards, the late singer Amy Winehouse.

Following Stockport College apprentice Aimee Southgate’s two award nominations, Altrincham and Sale Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and Stockport Business Awards, shop owners are keen to support the 17-year-old to follow in their footsteps.

Tramp Hair Salon owner Kristian Evans said: “I’m so happy for her being nominated for these awards. We work with people in the public eye, in the fashion and music industry, and when I came to Stockport I wanted to open doors for people I have had opened for me in the past. I want to show them the side of hairdressing that’s a bit cooler, and Aimee has taken to it like a duck to water.”

While earning as she learns at Tramps, Aimee receives support from leading industry assessors while training on clients at Stockport College’s on site Retreat salon.

Aimee said: “School wasn’t for me, so my assessor at Stockport College has gone out of her way to make learning more accessible by sharing Power Point presentations and going through anything I’m unsure of on the theory side with me.

“While I’m learning the way hair is done at Tramp, Stockport College makes hairdressing theory official, such as health and safety, by covering all the different parts of hairdressing training to get me 100% certified.”

While Aimee completes the final year of her apprenticeship, Tramp plans to introduce her to London sessions styling and support her dreams to work with stars.

Aimee said: “I never thought I’d end up with these kinds of opportunities when I was at school. I’m thankful to Stockport College for their support when I started this apprenticeship and for the expertise of staff in getting me where I am today. I love coming to work. Working in an alternative salon is definitely more me.”
