Broadcaster shouts out about Apprenticeship sparked by the Skills Shop

Radio broadcaster and award-winning restaurant apprentice Mark Adjei-Kumi has got plenty to shout about over the airwaves after gaining triple distinctions prompted by a bespoke retail training course operated by our Skills Shop.

The voice of Brainy Radio and McDonald’s employee earned the triple on the Customer Services Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship following a practical observation, a portfolio scrutiny and a professional interview thanks to support from the College’s tertiary training arm.

Mark, who found the Apprenticeship through the Skills Shop, said: “The course at the Skill Shop was very helpful and relevant for me. I was helped to apply for the Customer Care Assistant role at McDonalds. The knowledge acquired on the course helped me to be more confident during the group and one-to-one interviews. I was able to complete my course assignments with ease due to the fact that I had covered most of the topics at the Skills Shop.”

Mark received CV-writing support, mock interview practise and valuable work experience during the Skills Shop training course, all of which improved his confidence.

Triple distinctions aren’t the only accolade Mark is celebrating, the Skills Shop apprentice soared to great heights within six months of starting training by clinching best restaurant employee then best franchise employee in the North West.

Employability & Skills Manager at the Skills Shop, Jemma Lees, said: “We are delighted Mark has won these awards. A huge congratulations on his accomplishments with McDonald’s. He truly deserves every award he has won and it was a pleasure for Jenny and I to work with him throughout the programme. It is always lovely to hear from someone who has progressed and succeeded.”

As well as giving us a mention on the radio, Mark shares his story with schoolchildren across Trafford and Salford as a part of a McDonald’s and Salford Foundation corporate communities mentoring project.
