Course Overview

This introductory practical course is for people interested in learning the basic principles and techniques of basic Painting and Decorating.

You will learn how to identify the correct background preparation and the mixing and application of paints. You will also learn the correct process and application of wallpaper to walls.

The course is of value to anyone wishing to build their skills to undertake small DIY home projects, home renovations, craft projects or to simply learn a range of new skills.

No specific qualifications, previous learning or experience is required. An initial assessment of each candidate will be made before the start of the programme to identify candidates that have any specific training needs support, credit they have accumulated and the appropriate type and level of qualification. There will be an induction programme, so the candidate fully understands the requirements of the qualification.

The Level 1 Award in Painting & decorating qualification has been developed for delivery in College; this means that you do not need to be employed to study this qualification. The course is designed to give basic knowledge and practical skills in Painting & Decorating to enable you to undertake small projects such as re-decoration using paints and the wallpapering of small areas.

101 Introduction to health and safety in construction
Optional Units (Learners must achieve a further 6 credits of which 3 credits must come from the Level 1 units.)

Unit 003 Painting techniques
Unit 102 Introduction to the construction industry
Unit 111 Painting and wallpapering
Unit 112 Applying decorative effects
Unit 113 Applying wallpaper to internal and external angles and painting skirting
Unit 114 Painting a panel door

Potential progression to level 1 and level 2 Painting and Decorating programmes.

Learners must achieve a minimum of 9 credits, 3 credits from the mandatory unit and a minimum of 6 credits from the optional units, of which 3 credits must come from Level 1 optional units.

Summative assessments are undertaken by the tutor on completion of prescribed tasks.

Assessments are made for this qualification by completion of the activity workbooks for:
Unit 101 Introduction to health and safety in construction and
Unit 102 Introduction to the construction industry

All other practical units are assessed against the criteria prescribed by the Awarding Body.

The tuition for this course is £292.50.

This course is fully funded and available to anyone who falls within the eligibility requirements below:
