Course Overview

The aim of this HNC Building Services Engineering is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who can meet the needs of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. You will develop knowledge of construction and building services engineering linked to practical skills acquired through research, directed study, independent study, and workplace scenarios.

Course Requirements

All applications will be considered individual merit, however, offers will usually be based on:

BTEC Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.
Other related Level 3 qualifications.
Normally 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (or numeric score of 4/5 under newly reformed GCSE grading), including Maths and English.
An Access to Higher Education Diploma in a relevant area.

Related work experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.

What you will Learn

On this specialist pathway, you will acquire knowledge and develop understanding of boiler installation, heating system installation, pipe sizing and maintenance of heating systems. You will learn the principles of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Recent developments in heat pumps and recycling energy, requires students to develop a broader understanding of the environment, and the implications for the sector.

Assessment

You will be assessed using a range of methods including written assignments, reports, and presentations.

Progression

Students can continue their studies and progress to a level 5 HND, and following this can progress to study at degree level. Undergraduate courses include:

BSc (Hons) in Building Services
BSc (Hons) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Condition
