Course Overview

This workshop is based upon cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT is a talking therapy that is effective in helping people with anxiety and depression. It helps you to make sense of how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected in a ‘vicious cycle’ that keeps distress going. Changing unhelpful behaviours and challenging unhelpful thinking can lead to changes in the way you feel and break the vicious cycles.

Career Options

Completing a workshop in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a valuable step in familiarising yourself with this therapeutic approach, but it typically won’t provide you with the credentials required for professional CBT practice. However, it can still open doors to various career options in the mental health and counselling field, and serve as a foundation for further education and training. Here are some potential career options after completing such a short introductory course:

Personal Growth and Self-Improvement: Use your knowledge of CBT principles to enhance your personal development and well-being.

Mental Health Awareness Advocate: Become an advocate for mental health awareness and use your understanding of CBT to provide information and resources to others.

Peer Support Specialist: Work as a peer support specialist, offering guidance and support to individuals who may benefit from CBT-informed techniques.

Life Coach: Incorporate CBT principles into your life coaching practice to help clients set and achieve personal and professional goals.

Educator or Trainer: Share your knowledge of CBT by conducting workshops, seminars, or training sessions on CBT techniques and principles.

Counselling Support Roles: While you may not become a licensed CBT therapist, you could work in a support role at counselling centres, helping licensed therapists with administrative tasks or offering guidance to clients based on your CBT knowledge.

Career Counselling: Combine CBT principles with career counselling to assist individuals in managing job-related stress, anxiety, and career development.

Mental Health Resource Development: Contribute to the development of mental health resources, such as self-help materials or online content based on CBT principles.

Entry-Level Mental Health Positions: Seek entry-level positions in mental health organisations or facilities, such as mental health technician, behavioural health technician, or crisis hotline support.

Continued Education: Use your introductory CBT knowledge as a foundation for further education and training, aiming to become a licensed therapist or counsellor in the future.

Remember that becoming a licensed therapist or counsellor typically requires extensive education and supervised experience, so this short course is just the beginning of a potentially rewarding career in mental health. It’s crucial to continue your education and training to achieve professional qualifications in CBT or related therapies.
