The First Steps in Care Services will equip learners with basic knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills. Our qualification is designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately to work in health and social care or other related sector.

The qualification provides a pathway into the sector giving learners the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills about the wider health and social care sector before they decide which career progression they wish to choose. Learners will study Functional Skills or GCSE maths and English alongside their qualification. Learners will be expected to undertake work experience as part of their study programme.
Successful learners will be able to progress to Level 1 Progression Certificate in Care Services.
On successful completion of the qualification learners may wish to pursue a career within the sector can progress to Level 1 qualifications such as Progression Certificate in Care Services, followed by Level 2 in Health and Social Care or Early Years Practitioner.
The qualification will be assessed by your Tutor using a range of methods to include written assignments, tasks such as designing charts and leaflets, course work or methods such as oral questioning.
This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course).
