Course Overview

These qualifications provide the ideal introduction to the construction industry and cover essential skills in the following construction trades: bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling, electrical and plumbing.

Centres approved to deliver 6217 and 6218 will be automatically approved to deliver 6219.

Assessment materials are available to download under the Assessment Materials section of the relevant Level (see grey tab above). The phases cover the following trade areas:

Phase 1: Generic Units, Bricklaying, Joinery
Phase 2: Wall & Floor Tiling, Construction, Operations, Painting & Decorating
Phase 3: Carpentry
Phase 4: Plastering, Plumbing, Electrical
These qualifications are suitable for 14-19 year olds, or for individuals of any age wanting an introduction to the variety of construction trades, to gain skills in those areas and perhaps to decide which trade is the right one to pursue a career in

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 2 or above (including maths and English Language).

What you will Learn

Learning for this course will take place both in the classroom and in the workshop. you will develop your skills in numerous trades such as bricklaying, construction, and joinery.

Assessment

Each unit is assessed via practical assignments, and there is an optional e-assessment available.

Progression

you could progress onto a level 2 in construction skills, or focus on a specific area within the construction industry and go on to study plumbing, electrical installation, or carpentry. you could look to do an apprenticeship, or possibly see if there are any low level employment opportunities in any of the aforementioned fields

Career Options

Further study would likely be required, however, careers you could pursue down the line could include electrician, joiner, carpenter, builder etc.
