Hundreds of College students from across Greater Manchester are preparing to take part in one of the region’s biggest skills contests this week (19-29 March 2019) as part of the GMCG Inter College Competition.

Organised by the Greater Manchester Colleges Group, 10 colleges including Salford, Bury, Hopwood Hall, Manchester, Oldham, Bolton, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan & Leigh will play host to partner colleges from the GMCG as teams of students go head to head for the annual competition, all vying for the title of best college.

Each of the colleges from within the group will host and coordinate a different skills competition throughout the week in the sectors of Hair and Beauty, Construction, Enterprise, Digital Media & Computing, Engineering, Hospitality, Travel and Tourism, Music & Performing Arts, Art and Design, Public Services and Sport, and Health and Childcare, giving talented students the opportunity to compete against one another and showcase their skills.

Winning colleges and students from this week’s various competitions will gain the experience they need to enter regional heats of WorldSkills UK 2019, a set of national competitions that demonstrate the world of opportunities that come with vocational study, and inspire world-class excellence in vocational skills.

Joan Scott, Assistant Principal Adult Learning and Skills with Trafford College commented, “This is a very exciting week. The GMCG competitions give students the chance to develop their confidence and specialist skills, as well as increasing their employability. Students and staff have been preparing for this week for many months, and this is their opportunity to showcase their skills and produce some outstanding ideas and work. Good luck to all of the students and colleges taking part in this fantastic event.”
