Giving back to our community: Winter Fundraisers

Across all TCG campuses just ahead of the Christmas break, we will be collecting donations and raising money for two charities CashForKids and Cornerstones to help people in our community.

Operation Christmas Child

The Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child collects shoebox gifts‑filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items—and delivers them to children in need around the world.

Our HE Early Years students: BA (Hons) Childhood Studies, Foundation Degree Early Years Practice, and Foundation Degree Working with Children and Young People have been collecting for Operation Christmas Child last week. As part of their University Skills and Development sessions, all student cohorts had the opportunity to work together to create shoeboxes. Some students did this independently and many came together to create shoeboxes as a group, sharing items with each other to fill a number of suitable shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse UK.

BA (Hons) Childhood Studies students Farrukh and Vicky, along with tutor Jane pictured above, worked with the support of the HE Early Years team for the project. Organising printing posters for the event, highlighting the charity activities and organising drop-off locations across campus. Well done team!

CashForKids

Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity helping the children that need it most across the UK.

Their mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in communities who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect, or have additional needs. They believe that all children should be able to express their individuality, achieve their potential and live life to the full.

CashForKids work with grass-roots organisations that aim to make a difference in young lives, directly supporting families who often have nowhere else to go.

On Thursday 15th December, 11:30am-1:30pm across the Reception and Art Factory, our students are hosting a chocolate tombola and sports activities to raise money for CashForKids.

Shoebox Collections for Cornerstones Homeless Charity

Cornerstone Day Centre is a Caritas project that helps people in Manchester have the support they need to prevent them from becoming homeless.

They help people who do become homeless get secure, safe accommodation with the support they need to make a new home so that no one has to sleep rough.

In parallel with delivering direct housing outcomes, they aim to enable people to improve their well-being through providing services that meet immediate basic needs, promote mental health and well-being, enable people to access health and other support services and take up education, training, volunteering opportunities and employment, as a means of sustaining positive housing outcomes.

Our supported internship and progression curriculum learners from Trafford College are collecting shoeboxes for Cornerstones to donate this winter.

Shoeboxes can contain items such as hats, scarves, gloves, sweets, chocolate, and toiletries. If you don’t have a shoebox you can still donate any useful items to the team.

Collection Point – please take any items to the reception area, and state they are for the Cornerstones collection hosted by Vicki Myers.

Deadline for collections is Friday 9th December.
