Course Overview

Ladies hairdressing is a huge industry and having a recognised qualification can open doors to employment and opportunity in the industry. Our professional team will give you the training you need in shampoo and conditioning, cutting, colouring and client consultation. You will also gain skills in health and safety, stock display, salon reception and image creation, so you are ready for a career in hairdressing.

Course Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 3-4 including English and maths.

Successful interview with a Hairdressing Expert.

Course Skills & Benefits

To provide opportunities for you to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Hairdresser. This will include communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving.

You will study the theory and practice of hairdressing services to include the 9 mandatory units and additional optional units. The underpinning knowledge and skills required to successfully perform these services is also required.

Mandatory Units

Follow health and safety practice in the salon
Working in the hair industry
Client consultation for hair services
Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
Colour and lighten hair
Cut women’s hair
Styling hair

Create an image based on a theme within the Hair and Beauty industry
Working with others in the Hair and Beauty sector
Promote products and services to clients in a salon

Course Progression

Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
Level 2 Media Make-Up
Level 2 Certificate in Barbering
Level 2 Certificate in African Type Hair
Level 3 Certificate in African Type Hair.

Course Assessment

Once you have completed all your portfolios of evidence, assignments and underpinning knowledge, you will have a final practical test carried out by the Internal Assessor using the VTCT marking criteria and final assessment form. The VTCT External Verifier will visit a minimum of twice a year and review a sample of evidence as well as observing general overall skills of everyone on the course.

Course Finance

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are a resident in the UK and the European Economic Area or have been for the last 3 years. You must be under 19 years old on 31st August in the calendar year you start your course.
