Introduction to Make-Up

Course Overview

This course has been designed to prepare you for carrying out make-up applications using foundation, concealers, and powder, eye, cheek and lip products.
You will be able to prepare for basic make-up applications, carry out skin analysis and use consultation techniques. The treatment will also involve checking that the final result is to the satisfaction of the client.

This course can be designed for yourself; to learn how to put your own make-up on for interviews and for day to day wear. It is also a starting point for those who want a career in make-up and wish to progress on to the Level 2 Make-Up part time course that starts in January.

Our top priority is to ensure you learn something new while enjoying every second of it. The Make-Up industry is an exciting area to join and bring your creative flare.

Course Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 including English and Maths at Grade 3.
If you have no qualifications then please discuss this with an expert in your interview.
Successful interview with a Hair and Make-Up Expert.
You must have an interest in the make-up industry and must demonstrate an ability to communicate and follow the professional standards set by the awarding bodies.

Course Skills & Benefits

You will work with an experienced Make-Up artist with great links in the industry and knowledge to share.
This course will enable you to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge in order to provide basic make-up applications. Whether this be for yourself or on others.
On successful completion and interview with the Make-Up artist you will be able to progress on to the Level 2 Certificate in Cosmetic Make-Up and Beauty Consultancy in January 2021.

Course Progression

Level 2 Certificate in Cosmetic Make-Up and Beauty Consultancy (Part Time - Starting January 2021)
Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-Up Studies
Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing
Level 2 Diploma in Nail Services
Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy.

Course Assessment

As part of this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. A portfolio will confirm the knowledge, understanding and skills that you have learnt. It may be in electronic or paper format.
Evidence in the portfolio may take the following forms:
Observed work
Witness statements
Audio-visual media
Evidence of prior learning or attainment
Oral questions
Assignments
Case studies.
The qualification also has a number of written assignments and online exams.

Course Finance

This course is only available to age 19+ applicants. This is a full cost recovery course of £150. Please speak with Finance at student services for any more information.
If you are outside this age group please contact the college for further information.
There is a Kit and Uniform that must be purchased before the course starts. Please discuss this with a Hair and Beauty Expert on your interview.
