Improvers' IT

Course Overview

This course is designed to follow on from our Computing for beginners' course and includes an introduction to Word Processing where you will create simple documents and be able to combine images into your documents.

In the Second unit, you will learn how to refine and save your online searches for different types of information as well as being able to clarify whether information found is relevent, asccurate and safe.
You will also look at the different types of storage media used with modern computers.

In the final unit, your will learn how to enter basic numerical and text data into a spreadsheet and create simple calculations. You will then be able to select this data and produce simple charts and graphs.

Course Requirements

You will need to have completed a 'computers for beginners' course with us or have basic computer skills (Basic keyboard use, internet & basic email) in order to enrol upon this course.

Mandatory Units


There are three mandatory
units:



  • Displaying Information Using ICT
    (Basic Word
    processing)

  • Using ICT to Find Information
    (Using the internet
    more efficiently)

  • Producing Charts Using ICT
    (Basic spreadsheets &
    simple charts)

 



 

Course Progression

Once you have completed this Improvers IT course, you can progress onto the Level 1 ITQ Users course. That course takes your learning to level 1 and introduces you to PowerPoint presentation graphics as well as covering more Word Processing and Spreadsheet skills.

Course Assessment

This course is unit assessed which means that at the end of the three topics, you will need to complete a simple assignment to achieve a unit pass. Once you have completed all the three units of the course, you will have acheived the full award at Entry Level 3.

The course is delivered in a workshop format and you can learn at your own pace with the support of a tutor who specialises in computers. The learning environment is relaxed and informal and you can progress quickly onto higher level courses.

Who is the course for?

This course is for people who can already use a computer at a basic level. If you want to learn how to create simple letters that can also incorporate graphics, search and find better quality information on the internet and produce simple charts and graphs, this course is for you.
