Arts & Design - Level 1 Introductory Certificate

Course Overview

With a range of units written to inspire and support your journey into art, design, media and performance, this course introduces you to the skills needed to succeed. In art sessions you'll be introduced to drawing techniques, photography, graphics, mixed media and 3D. In media, you'll learn about how to use equipment to film and edit video products and in performing arts you will explore design skills for drama and dance shows. You'll also learn about further training and employment in the relevant industries.

Course Skills & Benefits

This course gives you the opportunity to explore a variety of creative skills with a view to progressing to the Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting), Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design or the Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media. You will explore art and design, media, performing arts and employability on this course.

Mandatory Units

Functional Skills are a mandatory part of the course and you will be required to study Maths and English. You will complete the following units looking at different areas in the creative arts and media sector:

Creating an art image
Presenting an image using a camera
Designing a product
Planning and marketing an exhibition
Creating a mood board

Course Progression

Upon successful completion of the qualification you will be able to apply for Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design or the Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media. This will prepare you for study at Level 3.

Course Assessment

Although the course is mainly practical, you will also work on research projects based on companies and organisations within the Art, Media and Performing Arts Industries. Assessment is continuous throughout the course with all practical work being recorded for marking purposes.

Course Finance

This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are a resident in the UK and the European Economic Area or have been for the last 3 years. You must be under 19 years old on 31st August in the calendar year you start your course.
