Computing - BSc (Hons) Level 6 Top-Up

Course Overview

This course will enable students to develop their skills, have a greater understanding of the importance of software development and working within the industry. This is a fast grwoing area of computing due to the digital world we now live in. The Open University Business BArometer reports that "63% of UK organisations are currently experiencing a shortage of digital skills so this is a great time to be studying in this area.

In terms of Subject Skills, you will:
Develop an understanding of computing programming languages, e.g. Java, PHP, SQL, C, C+, HTML, ASP.net, VB.net as well as design concepts e.g. UML, Object Oriented Designs.
Develop an understanding of different platforms and technologies e.g. visual studio, android emulator, emerging web technologies.
Develop and apply problem solving skills.
Develop a range of skills and knowledge to design, test and implement systems/applications.
Develop and apply policies and ethics relating to the COmputing Industry.
Develop a range of skills and knowledge within IT project management, quality frameworks and standards.

Course Requirements

Successful completion of a HND in Computing, alternatively a Foundation Degree in Computing or Software Development/Software Engineering. You must also have a GCSE in English and Maths at grade C or above or numeric score of 4/5), an alternative English and Maths qualification would be considered.

Course Assessment

A mixture of assessments will be used throughout the course such as coursework, demonstrations, presentations and examinations.
