by india

On Wednesday morning we welcomed over 40 local businesses into Stockport College for a face-to-face event on Skills for Stockport in partnership with Marketing Stockport, as part of our mission to transform employer relationships. We also had the opportunity to host this event in our brand new Vernon Arts building.

The aim of the event was to spark discussion over skills training, and launching Trafford College Group’s vision for ‘transforming employer relationships’ attracting and retaining talent in Stockport.

The Trafford College Group’s purpose is to unlock potential and foster success of our students. At the heart of this is our vision to become a leading provider of education and skills, supporting community cohesion, and driving local and regional productivity.

Marketing Stockport were invited into Stockport College as part of our mission to transform employer relationships, hosting their monthly meeting with us in our brand new art department.

Guests had the opportunity to network and develop relationships with other local businesses, with presentations from inspiring leaders including Deputy Principal Carmen Gonzalez-Eslava, and Assistant Principal Adult Skills and Employer Engagement Tracey Wood. Helping to spark discussions around the affects of COVID-19 on work placements and employment for young people over the past couple of years.

“Over lockdown work placements stopped, which has meant that students haven’t been able to gain the social skills that they usually would. Our students need the skills training and social development via mentoring and work experience as it is vital.” – Helen Murphy, Workplacements Co-ordinator for TCG
“The people of Stockport really do care, and we can all work together to make it even better.” – Helen White, Marketing Stockport

Careers education, information, advice and guidance lead for TCG Beth Robinson also said, “It was fantastic to be able to converse face to face rather than behind a screen and so refreshing to know that our local businesses are also looking for ways to collaborate.  We are looking forward to building our relationships with local businesses to improve the skills of our learners as well as contribute to our every growing economy in Stockport!”.

A highlight of the event was that we were able to showcase real student involvement. We wish to thank VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership learner, Jessica Artingstall, for helping out with the event.

In summary, Principal & CEO of TCG James Scott said “The attendance and feedback from local Stockport Employers was incredibly positive and there was a real willingness to engage in the transformational work we are undertaking with employers as part of our Strategic Plan”.
